Dear Sir,

Have you any objection to letting us know the exact price (per foot super) paid by your company for your Section of Farm Lot No. 3 at Kowloon; and also the compensation for its resumption offered to you by the Government when it was proposed to run the new railway through it? Our interest in the matter is that we are acting for the adjoining owner who has been offered, what appears to us to be, the ridiculous compensation of 3 cents a foot for her land.

We are,

Yours faithfully,

(Sd.) DENISON RAM & GIBBS.

We are proposing to send the whole correspondence home for the consideration of the Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Dear Sir,

Resumption of Portion of P.L.4.

In accordance with your instructions, I beg to hand you herewith Valuation report on the above matter.

Kowloon Farm Lot 4 is situated east side of Mongkok and lies to the North of L. 3 and K. I.L. 1157.

The lease area is 17 acres, but area in possession amounts to 20.689 acres = 910,400 sq.ft.

Crown rent = $79.75 per annum, and term of lease is 999 years.

Messrs. DENISON RAM & GIBBS,

Dear Sirs,

Present.

Hongkong, 16th November 1906.

years.

Replying to your letter of yesterday's date, the Government have made us no monetary offer for Section A, Kowloon Farm Lot 3, only certain Crown Land in exchange for our property, but even the latter offer has now been withdrawn by the Director of Public Works.

If you will send a clerk to make a copy of the correspondence passed between the Government and the Hotel Company we shall be pleased to give your representative every facility to work in our office.

The land was bought by us at 45 cents per square foot.*

Yours faithfully,

(Sd). C. MOONEY, Secretary.

This is the form of compensation that Mrs. Chan Moon Lau Shi has contended for and which has been denied her. *3 cents is offered by the Government for Mrs. Chan Moon Lan Shi's land!!!

Lease specifies that the Lot is for occupation only as a Farm, and no buildings nor dwelling-houses are to be erected except what may be required for the due cultivation or occupation as a farm.

The portion to be resumed by the Government lies to the East of the lot, and amounts to 2.12 acres.

The area to be resumed consists principally of cultivated land, partly used for growing vegetables and partly for fruit trees, and there is within it a substantial dwelling house which may be taken as required for the purposes of the Farm.

The value of the land to be resumed regarded only as a farm can be taken in comparison with Rice Fields near Canton, and I am informed that a high price is $10 per mow or $26 per acre per annum, also that vegetable garden land is not worth as much as rice fields. Land in Mongkok should not be as valuable owing to lack of water and increased cost of labour, therefore, an allowance of $75 per acre net rental...
